DID YOU KNOW:
The original Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (1972-1974) ran for an amazing 105 episodes. That's almost 8 full seasons!
Due to the popularity of S.N.T. Gatchaman, Tatsunoko Prods. then unveiled with sequels to the series, including:
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman II (1978-1979; 52 eps.)
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman F (1979-1980; 48 eps.)
p.s. The "F" from S.N.T. Gatchaman F stands for "funky!" (Just kidding…the "F" really stands for "Fighter").
Sandy Frank, the man responsible for Americanizing S.N.T. Gatchaman into his own 85-episode series called Battle of the Planets, was also savvy in producing game shows. Some of his credits (and a few of my favorites) include:
The $1.98 Beauty Show
Face the Music
Hollywood Showdown
($100,000) Name that Tune
(VH-1's) Name that Video
Agatha June's nickname is "Aggie". Calling her by that name, however, will not get you any action (except a swift kick in the rocks!).
Here's one thing I didn't tell you about the G-Force team: They're all orphans. It's the truth -- you will hardly hear about anyone's mother or father…except for Ace at sometimes.

SYNOPSIS:
Five teenagers are brought together by a science organization to defend earth from "deadly enemies from space", by transforming into superheroes (and one superheroine), who all sport birdlike costumes, each representing their strength and personality.
I remember watching this series when Cartoon Network had it on their pre-Toonami Super Adventures and Toonami cartoon block (ah, nostalgia!), and it was so awesome watching this series, because it had that retro-cool feeling about it, and I love the "Batman-ish" fight scenes and butt-kickings in each episode (minus the "pow" and "jab" signs). The series is called G-Force, an action-drama anime about the "five teenage champions" who don snazzy bird outfits and fly in their sleek spaceship called the "Phoenix", fighting evil space scum that could make the world a living (late 70's) nightmare!
The leader of the pack is Ace Goodheart, who wears the mighty eagle outfit. Next is the tough, rebellious marksman Dirk Daring, who wears the falcon outfit. Next is our only aforementioned G-Force superheroine, the beautiful Agatha June, who wears the elegant swan outfit (and looks pretty darn good in it, too!). Our next bird-hero is Hoodo (or "Hootie" to his friends, including you!), who wears the (obvious) horned owl costume, and is the cracker-jack pilot of the Phoenix. Out final fine feathered friend is Pee-Wee, who is the youngest of the five, who wears the swallow (or minnow) costume. These five individuals, under the supervision of their intelligent mentor, Dr. Brighthead, band together against the evil organization of Galactor, who wishes to ruin the world with its maniacal plans. Our group battles Zoltar, the evil (but crazily dressed) man who is Galactor's head honcho, who will stop at nothing to get our team eliminated.
Will our five heroes defeat the evil before them? Find out in this series (whose spoken-word theme song is rather nice -- especially the musical-loud "G-Force!" chants), which you can probably find from your friends, or on E-Bay, or on some online video sites. This is a very basic anime, and it's fun to watch and easy to follow.
It all started in Japan in the early seventies…who woulda thunk that this would become an instant phenomenon in such short time? Check the sidebar out for info on the other "copycat" series and sequels of the original Gatchaman series.
G-Force…bird-like defenders of the earth (let's just hope they won't poop on anything!)! A classic anime favorite!
AN ADDED SUPPLEMENT:
It's Gatchaman's 30th anniversary (soon to be its 31st), and since its debut, all these new series have changed the names of our characters like crazy. It's confusing, but don't fret! Here's a handy chart showing who was who during each series (p.s. Thanks to Anime Invasion Magazine for this information!).
